Today is Juneteenth, a special day in the African American calendar. It was on this day in 1865 that enslaved people in Texas learned that they were free, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
The all-too-common idea that all African Americans were freed in 1865 is a myth. The hideous reality is that their enslavement lasted well into the 20th century. Listen, and weep.
Please watch this presentation by my dear friend Antoinette Africa Harrell to learn the truth.
