My work on dehumanization over the past two decades has focussed on the dehumanization of racialized groups. The very concept of race involves the idea that there is a hierarchy of kinds of human being—an idea that is both false and extremely dangerous. Today, New Lines magazine published an article written by my spouse, the philosopher Subrena Smith, and myself, arguing that we should all push back against the very idea of race.
